A common misconception about photography is that it was an accidental invention. While fixing an image on a surface was accidental, for centuries, the camera served as a tool to understand the external world by investigating the image projected inside the interior space.
The camera obscura functioned as an aid to diagnose the fallacy of vision-mainly through linear perspective-and informed the matrixes of exteriority by dissecting the space into grids and articulating it as a geometric value.
Pivoting on Hito Steyerl's note that instruments of vision played an essential role in the constitution of the optical paradigm and its Eurocentric colonial perspective that came to define modernity, techniques of seeing pervade into our perception of the world and the spaces we occupy.
